CPSRA Regatta 5/16

Directions

This Sunday we have the CPSRA Championship Regatta at Lake Waramaug in New Preston Connecticut. This is the Connecticut High School championship regatta for our season and all boats are entered. I am happy to say that we are ranked second as a team, the highest we have ever been ranked, and we hope to have a very good showing this weekend.

The regatta starts at 8:00am in New Preston so we will have a very early bus time of 5:00 sharp!.
This is a very important regatta so we must stress that all rowers get to the bus on time! we will not be able to wait. we request that all team members arrive no later than 5:00 AM so we can depart on time. If you are late your parents will have to bring you to the regatta because the bus will be gone!

Food Drive
Finally, this year Farmington Bank Sponsored the CPSRA's for $10,000. Farmington Bank has requested that we run a Food Drive for Foodshare. They are requesting that each competing athlete provide 2-4 items for Foodshare, please feel free to send more. Food items must be non-perishable. They are also in need of toiletries, all soaps and paper products.

Thanks, Coach Mike

Course Map

All boats will be racing. We will be racing on the upper course that finishes at the Seaport, race distance is 1250 meters. Coach wants everyone there by 9 am, with the first race starting at 11am.

The best place to watch is in the seaport at the lighthouse - you get to see the finish of this one!
There will be a chuck wagon and as always we need donations of salads, pasta/potato salads, cut up fruit, and desserts.

Rowers: Please be aware of the weather conditions for Sat - as of right now they are saying rain - so dress appropriately and have extra clothes available.

SHS vs East Lyme 4/14

Course Map (PDF)
Race Schedule (PDF)
Directions to viewing area (PDF)

We have a scimmage with East Lyme on Wednesday for ALL boats, novice and varsity. East Lyme is the only school that we compete against that is also in the ECC's. The team needs to be there by 2:30, and the scrimmage should start about 3:30/4pm, starting with the novices.

Since it will be low tide, the races will be down river-so the best place to watch will be out on the docks at the Mystic River Marina. This is a great spot to watch. We have been given approval by the owners, we just have to be careful where we park.

Directions from the Seaport to the Mystic River marina:
Start out going SOUTH on GREENMANVILLE AVE/Rt 27. Continue to follow RT 27
Turn LEFT onto WILLIAMS AVE/US-1. Continue to follow US-1
Turn RIGHT onto MASONS ISLAND RD.
Stay on MASONS ISLAND RD, over the train bridge, then over the causeway.
Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto OLD NORTH RD.
Turn LEFT to stay on OLD NORTH RD
Turn LEFT onto QUARRY RD.
Follow around the corner and the road ends at the Marina.

There will be a chuck wagon back at the Seaport after the regatta (thank you Mr and Mrs Stafford!), and as always we need donations of pasta/potato salads, green salads, chips, fruit and desserts. As is tradition, families are welcome to join in as long as they make a monetary donation (can is on the table).

9am - de-rig & load trailers (mandatory)

10:30 - buses leave!

The regatta starts at 2pm at Pomfret. The directions for parents can be found here. Mike will let us know if there are any road blocks on the way - since he has to figure that out for the buses).

With all of the rain - wear rubber boots - it will be very muddy. Athletes - flip flops will get stuck in the mud - making it dangerous to carry the boats.

The weather looks nice - wear sunscreen please and have a fleece or sweatshirt in case it gets cold.

Novices: Even though you are not racing you are still invited to the pasta dinner, and you and your families are welcome to come to the regatta and see how it all works - before it is your turn. There is not room on the buses for you, since we are only bringing enough buses for the varsity. Coach Janis might have a practice on Sat - we are waiting to hear.

Seaport Study Hall before Practice

We are all set to use the German Club for the "crew study hall", the beige building across from the
entrance to the Seaport.

Study Hall Rules:

  • We are to use the main room upstairs. The kids cannot go downstairs - for any reason.
  • If the door to the upstairs is locked - wait for the study hall parent. Do not go into the downstairs.
  • Respect the parent chaperones - if they weren't there you would be back to finding rides.
  • On nice days it is ok to be right outside the building, as long as a chaperone is there and you do not run around the parking lot (safety issue).
  • Make sure that you leave the room clean - nothing left behind.

Coach Mike is still hoping that we can get the ok to move the study hall to the galley - but for now this will work.

We are still in need of parents to chaperone - even if you can only help on a specific day
